Let Us Out Of Ontario!
August 11th Day 26 Wawa, ON - Kenora, ON
Hours on the Road: 13 hours
This morning Aaron had a swim in the lake at our site. All day long he was pretty upset I didn't grab the camera to capture "the beauty of the lake". He says it's the lake he wanted to get, but I think he just wanted me to take photos of him in all his Baywatch glory. I'm sure some of you guys are pretty disappointed that I didn't take a few pictures of him too. Gordie.
We went through White River, which is where it all started for Winnie the Pooh. Christopher Robin named his teddy Winnie the Pooh after the black bear from White River, who was named Winnie after Winnipeg (Wikipedia!) This made us think of some of those old Canadian Heritage commercials we used to see.
"What should we call him, Christopher?"
"Winnie"
"Why Winnie?"
"I don't know. Just Winnie… the… Pooh."
It was a while ago so I know it didn't go exactly like that but it's close. Remember those commercials?! The Halifax explosion with the guy sending out the Morse code! The female teacher who went into a boardroom full of men and they laughed at her! Ka-na-ta!

Lunch was made possible by the Campbell family. Thank you for your chunky beef and vegetable. Hopefully you are not the same Campbells that massacred the Macdonalds in Scotland back in 1692. We stopped at the Terry Fox memorial at Thunder Bay to eat. The memorial statue was closely located outside the town where Terry had to stop his run.

Rain, shortly followed by lovely sunshine.

It was another late end of the day for us. We didn't make it into Manitoba and had to pull into another Wal-Mart. At 11pm (12am for us because of the time change) and after a tough drive, Aaron went straight to bed while I made dinner. Measuring out pasta with an empty stomach is a dangerous thing. Aaron said at one point he looked over at my plate of noodles and it was enough for two people plus leftovers. I was full 2/5 of the way through, but since we didn't have any tupperware and to avoid a messy clean up, I took a deep breath and tried to finish the entire pot. This reminded me of the time my friend, Kim Ho, ate thirty-one hot wings. It was extremely painful to watch. With 2/5 of the way to go I cried, "NO MORE!" I had failed. But what about all this leftover pasta? Oh yeah… we have zip lock bags.

Bugs Delight
August 9th Day 24 Edmundston, NB - Pembroke, ON
Hours on the Road: 12

Lobster rolls for lunch and dinner.

I was tensed up the entire time I drove, which wasn't long.

Once we got into Ontario we started seeing a lot of dead bugs gathering on our dashboard.
Aaron also had a bunch on his shirt.
Tonight's Wal-Mart stay was odd. Around 11pm we heard loud music playing in the parking lot. We looked out the window and saw two teenagers head banging beside the minivan with music blaring. We had no idea a Wal-Mart parking lot was the ideal place for dancing with friends on a Monday night. The two of us grumbled, "Darn, kids!" and went back to watching "Cars" on my laptop.

70 Hours To Go
August 8th Day 23 Charlottetown, PEI - Edmundston, NB
Hours on the Road: 8
And so our journey back to Vancouver begins. We were mentally prepared the night before by friends who told us the two way trip by car was crazy and that they'd hate to have to drive across twice. The thought of leaving the van in PEI and grabbing a flight home crossed our minds more than once. Alas, we had to shake our heads of the glorious plane ride and hop into the van. Our departure from PEI wasn't without Aaron breaking his mom's heart once more. Jerk. Farewell, Gentle Island. Thank you for accepting another stranger to your home and always welcoming Aaron despite his constant departures.
As you will begin to notice, photos and blog entries will be shorter and less eventful. The only times we'll get out of the van is to fill up on gas and when we're at our campsite. We can try to create excitement in the van while we're driving but how many pictures of me hand dancing and Aaron kung fu-ing mosquitoes can you guys take?

The biggest axe in the world! Nackawick, NB
Playlist:
Shanarrons Music CD... - Heather (Aaron thinks it was pretty close to the CD you made for Tofino. And that's a good thing)

DFP
August 7th Day 22 Charlottetown/Stratford, PEI
Shannon's Afternoon In Charlottetown:

Victoria Row.

Lunch at Fish Bones on Victoria Row.

Loving their system (falling in love, Charmaine?).
We went to Canton this morning for late night eats and bumped into Josh.
Aaron's Afternoon In Stratford:
I was very glad to make it for the first time to Duane's memorial golf tournament. It was really good to hang out with all the guys, even though my golfing was less than spectacular.

Our Evening In Stratford:

Sean and Meredith returned the camera I left in Moncton, but not without taking some pictures first.
Some are too breathtaking to put up.

Sleep Is Good
August 6th Day 21 Charlottetown, PEI
Today we slept in big time. We're going to blame it on the four hours of sleep we got before going to Nova Scotia. The hour we woke up won't be revealed. It's too shameful. Our not so long day was filled with having good times with Aaron's family.

Aaron and Nan.

It's Mutt Williams!

9/10 We Sort Of Did It!
August 5th Day 20 Charlottetown, PEI - Peggy's Cove/Halifax, NS
Hours on the Road: 7 hours + 2 hours on the ferry
The last province for us to visit was Nova Scotia. We would have loved to hit all ten, but Newfoundland & Labrador is just too far away. Since we only have nine days in PEI, we couldn't afford to stay overnight in Nova Scotia and take up some of our PEI time. We had to get up early and make it a day trip. The original plan was for us to visit Peggy's Cove yesterday but it rained and the weather forecast for today was sun and high of 27. More weather lies! It was hot and muggy but it was basically overcast for the entire day. Peggy's Cove would have been more exciting if the water wasn't so calm. The fog also didn't bring out it's best scenery. Nonetheless, we enjoyed walking on the rocks and taking it easy.

Seafood chowdah. It was okay. Nothing to get out of my seat and dance about.

Peggy's Cove population: 35
On our way back to the ferry terminal we stopped in Halifax. There were some activities happening by the water so we took a stroll along Halifax Harbour. Aaron says that Halifax has some fun places to hang out in on the weekends at night. It was Thursday and in the daytime so we went to rip it up at Starbucks instead.

Did You Know? It's free to come to PEI (by ferry or bridge) but it costs you money to leave.
Once we got off the ferry we went straight to Trevor's (Aaron's friend) house. Trevor's wife, Krista, brought out some appetizers with the highlight being the amazing mushroom caps. We did not try to be polite about grabbing and eating multiple pieces. No pictures again to avoid creepster status.

The Red Glow Is Normal
August 4th Day 19 Rice Point/Shearwood/Brackley, PEI
We finally went to some red sand beaches and I only brought my point and shoot camera and had it set on 2MP. It was a smart day. Along with seeing the beaches, Aaron took me on a drive to the old Macdonald farm.

The one thing I wanted to eat more than sushi was Chinese food. Aaron warned me to not expect the same type of Chinese food I would get in Vancouver. As Jen would describe it, the sauce that they use could be used on everything... from fried chicken balls to cheesecake. I admit, it was a bit different than what I'm used to but it was good food. We're both still trying to figure out Aaron's chicken chow mein order. It had bean sprouts and chicken, but no chow mein. Is that PEI style? Chow mein without the chow mein?

Sweet and sour chicken balls.

Dave and Athena.
Aaron hasn't been to a drive-in in a while and I've never been so we made the short trip to Brackley for the 11pm showing of Inception. Aaron did not enjoy the uber salty popcorn. He was so unsatisfied he was ready to go back and demand new and better popcorn. Too bad concession was closed five minutes after I had bought the food. Dump us with the crappy popcorn and leave. Sneaky!

Cold leftover Chinese food.

Intermission.
